I know I’ve been blabbering about this on twitter for a while now, but I thought I’d just make it permanent by telling you how exactly Img.ly smokes Twitpic and Co. out of the equation. This little twitter image hosting service has come a long way, adding features, and actually bringing innovation into the image hosting space.
First of all, Img.ly has a far superior user interface than Twitpic. It’s cleaner, is better organised, more intuitive. There’s even an iPhone version if your twitter client doesn’t support built in images. Second, Img.ly has a much more refined image uploader, which allows you to specify which side of the tweet you want the link to show up. Oh, and since the user base is tiny, the links are also very tiny! The the team is extremely responsive to feedback as the way they quickly implemented a delete feature, which is surprisingly missing from most of the other hosts.
The most awesome feature of Img.ly however, is the freakin tags. You can tag twitter users just by clicking and adding their twitter handles. The Img.ly notifier will then notify those tagged users in an @mention, so they’re automatically informed of the twitter upload. What’s more, you can also embed that twitter image in your blog post, and the tags are all retained!
As you can see, Img.ly is an awesome hosting service that, unlike twitpic, serves images for a major part of the day. I’m no way associated with the guys behind Img.ly, but their awesomeness drives me to write this post. Use it, and request your twitter client developer to implement it into their own client. Now I shall proceed to write Eray Bassar an email asking for some sort of compensation for this rave review…
